A study by dating site eHarmony has looked at what hobbies and interests are most likely to score a date and men have been put on notice.
If you happen to be an Aussie male who knows his way around an Atlas, has good manners and is comfortable discussing world events, you’re in luck.
A woman looks at an online dating site
The study of more than 100,000 Australians looking for love has found women want men who are well-travelled, cultured and informed.
An interest in politics, followed by an interest in travel, health and exercise, food and theatre are considered to be most attractive to lonely hearted women.
On the flip side, women who have drive, hit the gym and attend life drawing classes will have more luck winning a date.
The study found women who come across as ambitious, active and creative in their dating profile are most likely to catch a man’s eye.
Interests found to be most alluring to men were revealed to be personal growth, health and exercise, food, family and dancing.
However, one dating expert warns love seekers against adjusting their personal profile in a bid to appear more appealing, saying honesty is the best policy.
“What really matters is genuine compatibility,” says eHarmony dating and relationship expert Melanie Schilling.
She says being drawn to someone’s hobbies and interests doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be suited in the long term.
An interest in health and exercise is one thing men want when looking for love online.
“While it’s nice to have some hobbies in common, it’s important to look beyond this and be true to yourself,” she says.
“Take the opportunity to highlight the activities you participate in that link to your highest values, the stuff that really matters to you.”
“This will ensure you attract matches with the right combination of interests, values and personality for you.”
The study found men who include interests in their profile receive 125% more communication requests than those who don’t.
Interestingly, women only boosted their chances by 25% on this front.
Overall, women still receive almost triple the number of communication invites than men, the study found.
